When?

When was the Universe created?
It's about 15 to 20 billion years ago.
We know from studies of radioactivity of the Earth and Sun that our solar system probably formed about 4.6 billions years ago, which means that the Universe must be at least twice that old, because before our solar system formed, our Milky Way galaxy had to form, and that probably took several billions years by itself. It would be reasonable to guess that the Universe is at least twice as old as our Sun and Earth. However, we can't do radioactive dating on distant stars and galaxies. The best we can do is balance a lot of different measurements of the brightness and distance of stars and the red shifting of their light to come up with some ballpark figure. The oldest star clusters whose age we can estimate are about 12 to 15 billions years old. So it seems safe to estimate that the age of the Universe is at least 15 billion years old, but probably not more than 20 billion years old. This matter is far from being settled by astrophysicists and cosmologists, so stay tuned. There could be radical new developments in the future.

When?

When will the Sun burned out?
About another 5.4 billion years
Our sun is a star and is not actually alive, thought it is very active. It is a star, and like many stars that are about the same size (mass), it follows a pattern of development on the main sequence. Our sun will burn (fuse elements) for a total of about 10 billion years. Since our solar system is about 4.6 billion years old, therefore our sun has another 5.4 billion years to go. However you must understand that the sun will change as it ages as it begins to fuse heavier elements. It is presently getting hotter and hotter and in about another billion years the earth will not be a very pleasant place to live. Towards the end of its life it will puff up to become a red giant and its outer surface will be around where the earth orbits. In the end it will blow off its outer layers in a planetary nebular and what will be left is a small hot core called a white dwarf which will slowly cool and fade.

What You Can Do
Burning fossil fuels to power our homes and run our cars creates global warming pollution. Big and small changes can add up and make a real difference in the fight against global warming.

At Home: Use Less Energy
Home energy accounts for 21 percent of America's global warming pollution. If we make smart choices, we can cut more pollution than the entire emissions of over 100 countries!
Change a bulb: Better energy-saving lights
Greener power: Re-thinking home energy
Full list of tips: How to cut pollution at home
On the Road: Be Efficient
When it comes to global warming, how and what we drive are two of our most powerful choices. Transportation is the biggest source of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions, more than factories or homes.
Save fuel: Use less gas with your current car
Choose green: Buy a clean, efficient car
Neutralize the Rest
Even if you are already driving efficiently and using less electricity, there's more you can do. Buying offsets, or credits, neutralizes what we can't cut.
