Earth is the 3rd planet from the Sun and the 5th largest planet in the solar system. The Solar System consists of the Sun and the other celestial objects gravitationally bound to it: the 8 planets, their 166 known moons, three dwarf planets ( Ceres, Pluto and Eris and their 4 known moons) and billions of small bodies. This last category includes asteroids, Kuiper belt objects, comets, meteoroids, and interplanetary dust. The inner terrestrial planets are: Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. The outer gas giant ( or jovians ) are: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The 3 dwarf planets are: Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt, Pluto is the largest known object in the Kupier belt and Eris is the largest known object in the scattered disc.
